Book Review: Deceit by Brandilyn Collins

Deceit: A Novel

Product Description

Sometimes the truth hides where no one expects to find it. Joanne Weeks knows Baxter Jackson killed Linda---his second wife and Joanne's best friend---six years ago. But Baxter, a church elder and beloved member of the town, walks the streets a free man. The police tell Joanne to leave well enough alone, but she is determined to bring him down. Using her skills as a professional skip tracer, she sets out to locate the only person who may be able to put Baxter behind bars. Melissa Harkoff was a traumatized sixteen-year-old foster child in the Jackson household when Linda disappeared. At the time Melissa claimed to know nothing of Linda's whereabouts---but was she lying? In relentless style, Deceit careens between Joanne's pursuit of the truth--- which puts her own life in danger---and the events of six years' past, when Melissa came to live with the Jacksons. What really happened in that household? Beneath the veneer of perfection lies a story of shakeable faith, choices, and the lure of deceit.

MY REVIEW

Brandilyn Collins is one of my favourite suspense authors. Her books are, quite simply, addictive, and when her books are brought home my wife and I often fight over who is going to read the book first! Deceit did not disappoint. It was a highly enjoyable read with a tightly-woven plot and characters who quickly drew me into their lives. I enjoyed reading about "skip tracers", and wrestled with the issues that are raised regarding deceit and honesty in our lives. Brandilyn Collins to raise the bar with her suspenseful Christian fiction, and I can't wait to read her next offerings.

And so it begins...

I must confess that I truly love reading, and that my one addiction is Christian fiction! Nothing makes me happier than being able to curl up with a good book...preferably by Brandilyn Collins, Randy Singer, Robert Whitlow, or Tim Downs to name a few. My favourite authors are clearly those who write suspense...but if you promise not to tell anyone, I may confess that I do read the odd romance-ish novel (shh! Don't tell anyone that I've read Deanne Gist!). Anyway, this blog will be a place to talk about what I'm reading...and what I thought of it! So, here's to happy reading :)
