Perfect for getting you in the Christmas spirit! "The Gift" by Shelley Shepard Gray

The Gift

about the book...

A special Christmas story about love and blessings in the next book in the Amish of Hart County series

The Schwartz family is happy to be spending Christmas on their new farm in Hart County. But when Susanna Schwartz hears gunshots that causes her buggy to overturn, and then her little sister falls through a wooden bridge into the icy creek, it becomes clear from these dangerous “accidents” that someone wants them gone.

Neil Vance has been heartbroken ever since his parents lost their family farm. He knows it’s not the Schwartz family’s fault, but he can’t help but be resentful. Until he meets Susanna. She is kind-hearted and bold, and Neil can’t stop thinking about her pretty green eyes.

Neil thinks the accidents are just that, but Susanna’s father is convinced the Vance family is responsible. Susanna refuses to believe Neil would do anything to harm her. She’s fallen in love with him and knows he is a good man. But her family is ready to pack up and move, and time is running out to uncover the truth before someone gets hurt . . . or worse.

my review...

Romance, mystery, and a Christmastime theme combine to make a heart-warming and enjoyable read in Shelley Shepard Gray's latest novel, "The Gift", the third in "The Amish of Hart County" series. As a reader who enjoys suspense, I appreciate that the action starts from the first page of the story and doesn't let up from there! While readers may soon guess at who is behind the "accidents" the Schwartz family is encountering, the tale on how they discover the truth makes for an absorbing read, especially for those who love an Amish novel. I was soon swept up into the drama, along with the sweet romance brewing between Susanna and Neil in particular, a romance that takes some twists and turns indeed! Although I have read the prior two books in the series, "The Gift" can be enjoyed on it's own without having read the previous novels. As such, it is sure to appeal to all and will no doubt please Gray's growing fan base with the likeable characters, engaging plot, and a conclusion that will leave a smile on your face. Really, what more can you ask for?

I found "The Gift" to be just what I was looking for in getting me into the Christmas spirit. While love and forgiveness are needed year round, there is no better time for remembering how the gift of Jesus calls us to in turn extend his love to others. Shelley Shepard Gray has offered up another solid addition to "The Amish of Hart County" series, and I award this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. Here's hoping that the author has more in store for the people of Hart County!
