about the book....

Their Battle for the Throne Has Just Begun.

But Will It Matter if the World They Rule Collapses Into the Sea?

The gods are angry.

Volcanic eruptions, sinkholes, ground shakers--everything points to their unhappiness. At least that is what the king of Armania believes. His son Prince Wilek thinks his father's superstitions are nonsense, though he remains the ever dutiful First Arm of Armania.

When a messenger arrives and claims that the town of Farway has been swallowed by the earth, the king sends Wilek to investigate. But what Wilek discovers is more cataclysmic than one lost city. Even as the ground shifts beneath his feet, Wilek sets out on a desperate journey to save his people and his world. But can he do it before the entire land crumbles?

my review....

Once again Jill Williamson has crafted a complex, fascinating read in "King's Folly", which contains the first three parts of the Kinsman Chronicles series (each of which was separately released as an ebook, including "Part 1--Darkness Reigns", "Part 2--The Heir War", and "Part 3--The End of All Things"). I went into this book expecting to have to first go through some ground work establishing the world of the Five realms and all the key players, and it is a good thing I did because for the first several chapters you are meeting a new character each time. But as the story progresses, the author cleverly ties the story lines together until I was thoroughly engaged with the novel and simply couldn't put it down.  I greatly enjoyed the characters of Wilek and Trevn and Mielle in particular, each adding so much to the story, although I must confess that all of the characters are also compelling. Each part of the story is action packed and moves the plot along with great drama, moments of suspense, and a building tension between good and evil. As the world crumbles around the people of the realms, I found many excellent parallels to the people of the Old Testament and how the people of Israel wandered away from their true faith to follow a host of other, evil gods. I found myself thinking about how we, the people of Jesus' church today, can be so easily captivated by "false" gods and things that don't matter, whether it is our love of money or our focus on ourselves! I wonder if we, too, ignore the warning signs of a society gone wrong?

Readers who enjoy fantasy novels are surely in for a treat with "King's Folly", and if you are anything like me, you will be anxious to see how things continue in the next book, "King's Blood". I can't wait to see what happens next! 4.5 out of 5 stars.
