My kids love "Operation Christmas Child"! Do YOUR part Nov 14-20 #OCC_Canada #ilovepackingshoeboxes
For several years now, my kids have loved packing shoeboxes for "Operation Christmas Child"
This year, they had a great time hitting the aisles of the local dollar store and choosing things like school supplies, toys, or tooth brushes, things that they could put in the shoebox, knowing it will get sent to a child elsewhere in the world who is truly in need. While they were faithful in following the list provided by Samaritan's Purse about what may or may not be packed in the box, they commented on the fact that they wish they could send candy!
This year, they not only helped with the shopping and the packing, but they wrote a letter and drew pictures to include with the boxes too. They were sure to choose additional items they hoped the child they were packing for would like:
And so, in preparation for National Collection Week (coming up November 14-20), I thought I'd share a brief blog post encouraging other Canadians to also take part in this event too!
What is Operation Christmas Child?
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate circumstances around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes and the message of God’s unconditional love. Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes open doors for Samaritan’s Purse to provide children, families, and communities with access to clean water, food, clothing, shelter, medical assistance and more.
Shoeboxes from Operation Christmas Child transcend all barriers—language, culture, geography, and politics—to give joy and hope to hurting children around the world.
How can I help?
Pack a shoebox
Each shoebox is an opportunity to show God's love to a child -- so pack one today!
Find out more here: http://samaritanspurse.ca/rss/operation-christmas-child/get-involved/operation-christmas-child-packing-your-shoe-boxes.aspx#.WCDb_vkrKUk
After you pack your shoebox following the guide at Samaritan's purse, you can find a collection center, with locations all across the country!
The folks at Graf-Martin Communications also had a great idea - consider gifting your favourite teachers with a picture of your child and their shoe box, packed in their teacher's honour!!
Pray that every child who receives an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift will hear and know how much God loves them.
Whether it's through a small community group or your whole church congregation, you can collect items, hold a packing party, and invite the local community to come in and join you in filling shoebox gifts. This can be an effective bridge-building opportunity to share the love of Christ with those in your area who may not know Him.
Make sure you check out the "Packing Party Guide" here:
Also, make sure to register your event at SamaritansPurse.ca, where you can also receive more free resources and materials.
Have fun blessing children around the world!
