Will leave your pulse racing! "A Deadly Business" by Wiehl & Henry

A Deadly Business, Lis Wiehl

Seattle prosecutor Mia Quinn returns in fine form in "A Deadly Business". Juggling work and family life as a single parent is demanding, but things get near the breaking point when she gets a disturbing case where she must decide whether 3 teen boys should be tried as adults. At the same time she learns that her deceased husband was hiding more secrets than she'd yet discovered. As Mia seeks answers, both to the cause of her husband's death and the case she's prosecuting, she soon finds that uncovering the truth may hurt her "in more ways than one".

I enjoyed "A Deadly Business" just as much, if not more, than the first book in the Mia Quinn Mystery series! The action explodes from the first pages and doesn't let up until the harrowing conclusion. I am not exaggerating when I state that I couldn't step away from the book for more than a moment, and just had to sneak in one more chapter before returning to real life! Wiehl and Henry continue to be a top-notch writing team, with crisp and vivid writing that will leave your pulse racing. Although the authors weave together two story lines, that of Mia's private life involving her late husband, and her current case, they blend the worlds together extremely well and use the alternating plots to keep the story moving along at a break-neck pace. As Mia faces threats from every side, threats to make the wrong decision, fail as a parent, lose her job, or battle for her very life, readers will come to care deeply for this courageous character who stands for what is right. The characters are wonderfully developed, and the hint of romance developing between Mia and homicide detective Charlie & fellow lawyer Eli make for some intriguing, and entertaining, reading. Although the story is light on faith, Mia is clearly a character seeking to return to the roots of what she believes about God, all while doing the right thing along the way. Whether readers already follow God or are still seeking the truth, they will be held spellbound by "A Deadly Business" and the wonderful Mia who they will befriend through the pages.

This book definitely ranks as one of my favourite suspense reads so far this year. 5 out of 5 stars!
