about the book....

Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.

When Lyndie James, Jake's childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion's reluctance to run.

Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake's will, Lyndie's sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he's built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he'd thought he'd lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?

my review....

With characters you are going to love, and a plot that will have you galloping through the pages at top speed, "A Love Like Ours" is sure to please fans of Becky Wade and acquire her new ones along the way too! The story moves along at a brisk pace, as Lyndie sets her sights, and her heart, on bringing healing to her former childhood friend Jake. Jake's struggle with PTSD adds a depth to the story, and Wade expertly draws readers into his world until you can't help but sympathize with him despite his surly behaviour. I thought Wade did a brilliant job at using the subplot of Lyndie's sister Mollie, with her severe disabilities, to bring healing to Jake's own life as he considers the reality of God in the midst of his own pain. The relationship that develops between Lyndie and Jake is one filled with plenty of light-hearted humorous moments, but also many that have emotional depth as well. And Lyndie's side-kick, Amber, had me grinning many times with her antics as she seeks to draw Lyndie into her plot to find a perfect guy through some zany date ideas!

There is definitely a reason that readers are drawn to books featuring handsome but broken guys who need a healing touch from a loving woman, because watching a character's process of healing and transformation in the midst of a love story is powerful to behold. But Becky Wade does a tremendous job at pointing readers to the truth that it is God who is the true healer, and heroes of any variety are simply His hands and feet. "A Love Like Ours" reminds us that the true fairytale ending is the one where God's love sweeps in and does the healing, and we just get to come along for the ride.

Fans of contemporary romance should plan on adding Wade's latest book to their collection. The characters are unforgettable, the love story will set your heart pounding, and, really, who doesn't enjoy a story involving horses? I give this story a solid rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
