Another stellar novel from Elizabeth Camden: "To the Farthest Shores"

Infused with dramatic scenes and spiritual truths about forgiveness and grace, "To the Farthest Shores" offers up an emotionally satisfying journey for readers seeking a well-written historical novel.
As with all of her novels, Camden's historical research shines through this story and lends an air of authenticity to the book, which is set in the late 1800s/early 1900s. The details about the developing pearl industry and the Military Information Division were an intriguing discovery for me. I had never even heard of such a division in the U.S. Military, and so I thought Ryan's job added an interesting element to the plot. I quite liked his character, and I couldn't help rooting for him as the secrecy shrouding him meant he (and his actions) were so often misunderstood by others. But perhaps my favourite character is that of Jenny, as I felt immediate sympathy for her uniquely challenging past and her tremendous courage in choosing to live a different life than she grew up with. Her determination to put the needs of others first is admirable, as is her resolve to especially stand up for the under dog. And when it comes to the romance between Ryan and Jenny, Camden did an excellent job at adding depth to their relationship, making the ending all the sweeter for the ups and downs they experience.
I can assure readers who are typically drawn to Camden's novels that they will once again enjoy this latest book from her talented pen. If you are a lover of historical novels, put this one on your "must read" list. I award this novel 4.5 out of 5 stars.
