Another great Evie Blackwell novel: "Threads of Suspicion" by Dee Henderson
about the book....
Will her latest cold case unravel before justice is served?
Evie Blackwell's reputation as a top investigator for the Illinois State Police has landed her an appointment to the governor's Missing Persons Task Force. With so much public fanfare surrounding the launch of this elite investigative team, the political stakes are high, and the team will have to produce results--and quickly.
Evie and her new partner, David Marshal, are assigned to a pair of unrelated cases in suburban Chicago, and while both involve persons now missing for several years, the cases couldn't be more different. As Evie opens old wounds in a close-knit neighborhood over the disappearance of a college student, David searches for a private investigator whose last case involved a high-powered client.
With a deep conviction that "justice for all" truly matters, Evie and David are unrelenting in their search for the truth. But the questions that lie just beneath the surface in Evie's personal life are also begging for answers.
my review....
Once again starring the admirable and likeable Evie Blackwell, "Threads of Suspicion" is a complex, entertaining novel that provided a fascinating look at how police forces tackle cold cases. Both Evie and her new partner on the Missing Persons Task Force, David, have been given seemingly impossible cases to solve, and I liked how Henderson intertwines not only their lives and work on the task force, but their very cases too! I should caution that the first half of this book does move a bit slower as time is taken to establish the background for the cases. However, even though some of these earlier chapters move at a gentler pace as a result, by the midway point the pace really picks up, and some scenes in the last few chapters had me gripping the pages as the characters are thrown into suspenseful situations! The author has again done a great job at developing unique characters who really come to life with their individual histories, their doubts and struggles, and also their successes. I loved the glimpse I got into how a detective's mind works, chasing down one theory after another in a bid to arrive at the truth. I also appreciate that their is no "lone cowboy" in this book trying to solve everything on their own, but that instead the cases are ultimately solved by a team working together. The ending was satisfying, and I was left wanting to spend more time with Evie and the rest of the team as they work to bring justice to cases that have long remained unsolved. I hope that this series continues beyond just the typical three that most series have, as Henderson has succeeded at not only crafting an intriguing plot, but great characters too! I look forward to what lies in store for Evie.
"Threads of Suspicion" is another strong addition to the "Evie Blackwell Cold Case" series, and I am certain that Dee Henderson fans are going to enjoy every bit of this book. I award Henderson's latest novel a solid rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
