A satisfying novel: "The Road Home" by Beverly Lewis
about the book....
As the sun began to rise, Lena Rose leaned against the cool pane of the bus window and gazed out at the familiar landscape of her life. I'm leaving my family and everything I know behind. She sighed, trying to keep her composure.
Grieving the death of her Amish parents and the separation from her nine close-knit siblings, Lena Rose Schwartz consoles herself that her new life in Lancaster County won't be forever. Surely someday soon she will return to her beloved Michigan settlement, including her beau. But even as she holds on to hope for a reunion with those she loves most, she discovers that Lancaster holds charms of its own. Will she find the courage to open her heart to other possibilities?

my review....
Plumbing the depths of your emotions, "The Road Home" is a book that will immediately engage your heart as Lena and her siblings lose their parents and must find a way to move on. Lewis succeeds at bringing her characters to life over the course of the novel, and I came to admire Lena for her courage and the way she blesses those around her, even in the midst of her own pain. If you are anything like me, you will feel torn between wanting Lena to settle down roots and perhaps even find love while in Lancaster County, while remembering the heart-broken siblings and beau that Lena has left behind at the same time. I simply couldn't decide which ending I would prefer, but I can tell you that Lena makes the right choice!
I can't imagine how hard it would be to find yourself in Lena's situation, and I loved how Lewis keeps the focus on God and his providence, bringing good from even the most difficult of situations. As such, I found myself really encouraged and blessed by this story. I did find that midway through the novel that the story slowed down its pace a bit too much for my liking, but the ending is utterly satisfying in every way and I felt liked I'd been wonderfully entertained all in all. I can see why Beverly Lewis continues to be a go-to author for Amish-themed novels, because she perfectly captures the essence of the Amish faith and pairs it with characters you are going to love. Such is the case with "The Road Home", a story that will surely leave you with a smile on your face.
Fans of Beverly Lewis are going to appreciate her latest offering, and be left looking forward to what she has in store in her next novel. I award her novel a solid rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
