about the book....

An Impossible Situation. An Unlikely Couple.

A Recipe for Love?

After fulfilling a pledge to a dying friend, Zacharias Hamilton is finally free to live life on his own terms. No opportunities to disappoint those he cares about, just the quiet bachelor existence he's always craved. Until fate snatches his freedom away once again when the baker of his favorite breakfast treat is railroaded by the city council. As hard as he tries to avoid getting involved, he can't turn a blind eye to her predicament . . . or her adorable dimples.

Abigail Kemp needs a man's name on her bakery's deed. A marriage of convenience seems the best solution . . . if it involves a man she can control. Not the stoic lumberman who oozes confidence without saying a word whenever he enters her shop. Control Zacharias Hamilton? She can't even control her pulse when she's around him.

Once vows are spoken, Abigail's troubles should be over. Yet threats to the bakery worsen, and darker dangers hound her sister. As trust grows between Zach and Abby, she finds she wants more than his rescue. She wants his heart.

my review....

Karen Witemeyer has crafted a zinger of a read with her latest, "More Than Words Can Say". With the requisite romance, a heroine who will pull at your heart strings, and some small town intrigue which will keep you turning the pages, what's not to like? I always appreciate that Witemeyer infuses humour into every nook and cranny of her books, and this novel is certainly no exception. I appreciated the fun and unique way that she draws Abigail and Zach into a relationship, and the way that this causes them both to grow and mature in the process. Zach is a hard-working and honourable bloke who you just can help but admire as he steps in not only to support Abigail but then also takes her sister under his wing in her hour of need as well.

Witemeyer takes the time to weave some deeper themes into her novel as well, with her characters working through grief and loss and wrestling with forgiveness. The impact of bitterness is clearly shown through Abigail's interactions with one of the townspeople and was a reminder to me about the dangers of holding grudges and not forgiving as God has called us to do, even though it can be one of the most challenging things we have to do. The author has succeeded at writing a book that is not only a fun read but one that offers up spiritual truths at the same time.

I know that there is quite a fan base out there who race to get their hands on anything Karen Witemeyer offers up. I am pleased to report that "More Than Words Can Say" is another solid addition to her repertoire, and I award this novel 4 out of 5 stars.
