about the book....

In the shadow of the nation's capital, Kate Livingston's respectable life as a government worker is disrupted by an encounter with the insufferable Trevor McDonough, the one man she'd hoped never to see again. A Harvard-trained physician, Trevor never showed the tiniest flicker of interest in Kate, and business is the only reason he has sought her out now.

Despite her misgivings, Kate agrees to Trevor's risky proposal to join him in his work to find a cure for tuberculosis. As Kate begins to unlock the mysteries of Trevor's past, his hidden depths fascinate her. However, a shadowy enemy lies in wait and Trevor's closely guarded secrets are darker than she ever suspected.

As revelations from the past threaten to destroy their careers, their dreams, and even their lives, Trevor and Kate find themselves in a painfully impossible situation. With everything to lose, they must find the strength to trust that hope and love can prevail over all.

my review....

Elizabeth Camden excels at creating the most intriguing of historical plots, and "With Every Breath" is no exception! The focus on Trevor's search for a cure for Tuberculosis not only gave me a greater understanding of this disease as it lurked in the past, but made me completely thankful I live in an era of modern medicine! I can't imagine contracting a disease that would leave me utterly terrified that I was going to pass it on to my children with my very breath. This aspect of the story line is truly fascinating and left me with a great appreciation for those who gave their lives to battle this disease. Despite such a serious subject matter, Trevor and Kate's developing relationship made for a nice balance to the story, providing many hilarious moments in the midst of the medical drama. Although this isn't one of those books necessarily seeking to have reader's laugh out loud, their interactions are a hoot (and some of Trevor's "compliments" to Kate left a big grin on my face). The mystery surrounding Trevor's past was also interesting and I enjoyed watching the plot unfold. But what I most loved in this story is the author's ability to look at the issue of loss and suffering and the human tendency to live in fear and so lose out on what God may have in store for us. Kate's determination to control her future so she doesn't have to experience such loss again is something we all battle with - and as the end of the novel approached, I felt absolutely triumphant along side of her!

I highly recommend this book, and dare anyone to pick up a copy and not enjoy themselves! 4.5 out of 5 stars.
