Starring the quirky, lovable Serena that readers have come to know and love in the first two "Serena Jones Mysteries", the latest novel from Sandra Orchard is a fun mystery that I greatly enjoyed! Filled with plenty of false leads and unexpected twists, these are the kinds of mysteries I love to devour - and I did so, in one sitting! Not only is Serena once again the star, but her Aunt Martha once again adds some zany hilarity as she disregards convention and does what needs to be done. The addition of several secondary characters had me guessing about 'who done it', and I enjoyed the journey of figuring out the truth of what occurred.
Orchard has done a great job at fleshing out these characters, not only in this book, but throughout the series. And, of course, readers will finally get to find out who Serena ultimately falls for, with both her fellow FBI agent Tanner and her neighbour/building supervisor Nate flying to her side to support her through her mad capers around Martha's Vineyard. The romance is nothing too gushy (for us male readers) and quite honestly adds much to the story. By the middle of the book, I knew I was in for a long night because there was no way I was going to be walking away from the novel. The final chapters flew by in a frenzy of sleuthing by Sandra's side, and I turned the final pages of the book with only one regret - that I had finished the final book in the series.
Humour, mystery, fabulous characters and a great plot - honestly, what more could you ask for? I am so proud to be able to have a fellow Canadian like Sandra penning such great books! I was thoroughly entertained by "Over Maya Dead Body", and I award it a very solid rating of 4.5 stars out of 5.
