ABOUT THE BOOK...
"You probably want to hear about Jennifer and the demons and how I played chicken with a freight train and-oh yeah-the weird murder . . . you're definitely going to want to hear about that."
Sam Hopkins is a good kid who has fallen in with a bad crowd. Hanging around with car thieves and thugs, Sam knows it's only a matter of time before he makes one bad decision too many and gets into real trouble.
But one day, Sam sees them harassing an eccentric schoolmate of his named Jennifer. When Sam finds the courage to face the bullies down, he loses a bad set of friends and acquires a very strange new one.
Because Jennifer is not just eccentric. To Sam, she seems downright crazy. She has terrifying hallucinations involving demons and the devil and death. And here's the really crazy part: Sam is beginning to suspect that these visions may actually be prophecies--prophecies of something terrible that's going to happen very soon. Unless he can stop it.
With no one to believe him, with no one to help him, Sam is now all alone in a race against time. Finding the truth before disaster strikes is going to be both crazy and very, very dangerous.
MY REVIEW
Mark my words - if you pick up this book, you'd better plan on ignoring the world around you until it releases its grip on you. Crazy Dangerous is an astonishingly good read, simply impossible to put down. Never mind the fact that it's written primarily for a juvenile audience - and I'm not technically juvenile (well, my wife may argue that point at certain times). I just loved it! The action is intense and non-stop, and the descriptions completely immerse you in Sam's world until you feel the excitement, the danger, the craziness right along with him. I really enjoyed the first-person narrative style that the book is written in, an almost conversational manner that perfectly complemented the adrenaline-laced scenes. I thought the author also wove together the spiritual elements of the book in a brilliant manner, leaving the reader questioning what was supernatural in nature and what was due to chance, but ultimately fostering a sense of wonder at the complexity and mystery of God. Crazy Dangerous is a good, solid story, and one that will entertain teens - and maybe their parents - while not introducing them to questionable morals at the same time.
I highly recommend Crazy Dangerous, and look forward to what the author can come up with next! 5 out of 5 stars.
